The sweet smell of chocolate cake

We went visiting this morning so I thought I would try out a newly discovered recipe.  This one is from Nigella Lawson and is her Flourless Chocolate and Lime Cake.  It is supposed to be served with a margarita type sauce but I figured that it might not be appropriate for children or at 10.00 am!

As with all my cakes, it is refined sugar and grain free and absolutely divine.  It was quite a bitter cake because of the lack of sugar, the 85% Green & Black's Chocolate and the tangy lime.  But yum!  The kids scoffed it down without complaint.  Although it is pricey to make, it is worth the effort and definitely one I'd make again.

Is cake good?

It sure is when it tastes this good.  This orange and chocolate cake is a flavour sensation, and of course its grain and sugar free.

I actually made this for a friend today but it wasn't ready in time, which means that there may be a little (or a lot) missing from it by the time I catch up with her tomorrow.  Oh dear!

Cake anyone?

It is no secret - WE LOVE CAKE. As ridiculous as it sounds, one of my biggest concerns about removing sugar and grains from our diet was that we would no longer be able to enjoy such indulgence. Certainly in the beginning I was at a loss as to how I could bake anything near as tasty as we were used to, but now that Petite Kitchen is on the scene all my worries are over.  This Almond, Raspberry and Coconut Cake is simply divine.  Just the right amount of sweetness from the nutritional goodness of honey and a lovely crunchy coconutty topping.

Muffins and things

So I have been experimenting with muffins over the weekend.  The first batch were not that impressive. So many ingredients and some of them questionable as to whether or not they were even Primal let alone Paleo - baking powder, xanthum gum? What do you think?

Anyhoo, I made another batch following a much simpler recipe, made a few changes (again with the baking powder) and ended up with a pretty good muffin.  I topped it with olives, sun-dried tomatoes and feta, which I had actually intended on mixing in with the batter.  Oh well.  These were coconut flour based and even have a pretty good taste on day two.  Might be a winner!

And just like that

A chance conversation, followed by another and another and all of a sudden it looks like we're in business.  I'll share the details soon, but it looks like exciting times ahead!
